Hospiten Bávaro

Hospiten Bávaro is part of the international Hospiten group and sits on the Verón–Punta Cana road, a short drive from the airport. It lists more than a dozen specialties, including cardiology, traumatology, paediatrics, gynaecology and an intensive care unit, and says it works with a wide network of national and international insurers. Main phone: +1 809-686-1414. Hospiten also runs small clinics inside some all-inclusive resorts, so ask your front desk first for minor problems.

Centro Médico Punta Cana

Centro Médico Punta Cana is on Avenida España in Bávaro and belongs to the Grupo Rescue network. It has an emergency room and a 24-hour call centre (+1 809-473-7283); the main line is +1 809-552-1506. It is often the closest hospital for hotels in central Bávaro.

Hospital IMG Punta Cana

Hospital IMG is on the Boulevard Turístico del Este near Cocotal and is often recommended to English-speaking patients. Main line +1 809-285-6116, WhatsApp +1 849-261-6116. It also operates an outpatient clinic in Puntacana Village near the airport.

What to bring to the hospital

  • Passport or ID.
  • Your travel or health insurance card and the insurer’s emergency phone number. Call your insurer as early as you can; many private hospitals ask for a guarantee of payment or a deposit.
  • A list of medicines you take and any allergies.
  • A credit card.

Getting to the hospital fast

For a true emergency, call 911 or ask your hotel to call an ambulance. For urgent but stable situations (a sprain, a high fever, a child who needs to be seen), a private car is often the quickest option. Punta Cana Transfer Pro can send a car on WhatsApp (+1 555-453-7815); tell us it is a hospital trip so we send the nearest available driver. We are a transport service, not a medical service, and our drivers cannot give medical care.

Pharmacies

For minor problems, pharmacies such as Farmacia Carol have branches in the main shopping centres, including Downtown Punta Cana and San Juan Shopping Center in Bávaro.

Getting to the hospitals in Punta Cana by private car

For a medical appointment or a follow-up visit (not an emergency), you can book a private driver who waits for you and takes you back to your hotel. In a life-threatening emergency, call an ambulance first. See your price and book your private transfer, or message us on WhatsApp. You can also read more guides in Where to Go in Punta Cana.

Save this page before your trip: the hospitals in Punta Cana listed above are spread across Bávaro and the Punta Cana area, and the drive between them can take a while in traffic. Knowing which of the hospitals in Punta Cana is closest to your hotel is the most useful thing you can do in advance.
