Some of the best of the Dominican Republic is a few hours from the resorts: Saona’s white-sand beaches, the mangroves of Los Haitises, the waterfalls of Samaná. These trips take 6 to 11 hours and most include transport and a meal, so plan for a full day.

Saona Island, three ways

  • Group tour (from $75, ages 1+): best value and good for families.
  • Private catamaran (from $165, up to 30 guests): best for celebrations and bigger groups.
  • Private speedboat (from $799.95, up to 10 guests): best for small groups who want the day to themselves.
